How do torrent downloads work?

everyone tells me about it but i dont know what to do!!
step by step instructions would be really helpful pleeeeeeeeaaaaase!!!!

First you need a program to download torrents, e.g uTorrent



Heres a link to download it:

Install that and then basically all you need to do is go into google and type something and add torrent to the end of it.



E.g.



"our lady peace torrent"

"a perfect circle torrent"

"pearl jam torrent"



Then you will probably get a list of a load of torrents from different websites, look at the status (usually a bar which is green, yellow or red.... green means its a good torrent, red means its a virus most likely. Also, see how many "seeders" it has, if its not more than 10 try a different link, you need about 20 or more to download it faster, sometimes it will stop downloading (because the seeders are offline most likely) but just leave it for a few hours and it should download within 24 hours, I usually download about 4GB in 24-30 hours. So check your internet speed, and the size of the files you want.

Some torrent files will be in RAR format, which basically compresses the files into a smaller file making the download process faster, when you download an RAR file you need to open it using WinRAR, sometimes you might need a password, but the torrent should come with a password.

1. Download a bittorent client - a program like utorrent, vuze, or limewire.

2. Download the torrent you want. - search for what you want on a torrent website like www.thepiratebay.org or www.torrentreactor.net, click on it, then click download.

3. When the torrent has downloaded, it will appear on your desktop, or wherever you have set files to download to. (If you are using Google Chrome they will download to a folder named Downloads in your documents.

4. If you double click on the icon for the torrent, it should open automatically with the bittorent client you downloaded. If not, a window will pop up asking you if you want to use the web to find the program, or if you want to choose the program from a list of programs. Select choose the program from a list of programs and press OK. Then click on browse and find the bittorent client(the program you downloaded in the first step). It should open.

5. It should tell you somewhere that it's started downloading. Wait for it to finish.

6. When it's finished there will be a folder somewhere in your computer( most likely in your music folder) called something like what you downloaded - e.g our lady peace, a perfect circle, pearl jam

7. Open it, and you should see the music files.

8. Click them, and they should play.

9. Congratulations, you now know how torrent downloads work!

To start using torrents is pretty easy.



Download a client ( I tend to use uTorrent which is located at http://www.utorrent.com )



Install the client.



Use a search engine ( Piratebay and Mininova are best for most items people want )



The more seeders for a post, the better. Seeders are basically people who are uploading the file to other downloaders.



Example:



Music Album You Want: 1,058 Seeders , 375 Downloaders (Or leechers as they are sometimes known)



Another Album You Want: 25 Seeders , 800 Downloaders



The 2nd album is most likely going to be a slower download for yourself.



If you do get slow downloads you might need to reconfigure the torrent program you use.
