Uggghhh... I have Comcast cable internet service and two desk top computers in my home. I was told by comcast to by a wireless router in order to get internet service on the upstairs computer. I bought a Linksys. I have it fully hooked up to the Modem cable ethernet box thingy that comcast gave me. My down stairs computer works just fine online.
However, on the upstairs computer I have tried everything. It can't read a signal? WTF?
Am I doing something wrong.......??? UUUUggghhh

Ok well. Are you runnin XP? also do you have a wireless nic card in your pc. You will have to buy one of the seperate. If you buy the pci card it should have an atennae on it. If you buy the usb jump drive version it will just be like a flash drive. I suggest the pci card if you have enough room. Also each wall or object in the way of the router will interfere and in effect greatly reduce the range of you network. Try to move the router or the ocmputer if you can. If you have Windows Xp, there is a wireless network setup wizard that you can go thru to setup the network. Its real easy. Just click start-control panel-network and internet connections-and then you should see it. Make sure you have your wireless pci card installed correctly.

The modem should be plugged into the wall, the linksys into the modem, and the computer into the linksys. Then you need to have a wireless card on the upstairs one, to see the downstairs router. Use the wireless network wizard, and it should come up. If you have a friend with a notebook PC, with a wireless card then it's a good way to test your connections. Good Luck

are you using a wireless laptop upstairs or a desktop and does the desktop have a wireless card in it. thats a start. it would have been easier to just buy a router and had someone run a wire between floors through a wall and you would not have to sacrafice any speed for wireless. but if your having any more problems you can just call comcast (but wait they wont help you cause you didnt buy the equitment from them) call or go to the linksys website they will help,,,

if your upstairs is more than 100 feet away from the router you might not be able to pick up the signal. this might be a dumb question but do you have a wireless adapter on the upstairs pc.

if you do have the adapter and it is a distance issue. you can always buy another wireless adapter for the downstairs pc and put the router and the modem in a nuetral location if you have a cable outlet in a nuetral location. good luck

Go to Comcast.com to see the set up. That could be your problem. I went to Version's because that is what I have and it showed my system and the Linksys. Through that, I got my internet to work. That and I had a little help from the people on this board. Whatever you do? Do not get angry. Calm down and read. That is the best thing to do.

There may be something interfering with the signal. If you have steel reinforced concrete floors upstairs, that would explain it. Or maybe just elecrical wiring between the floors. Try changing the position of the wireless router and trying it again.

Call the 1-800 phone number for Linksys. It should be listed somewhere on the box that our router came in. They will talk with you and help you install it properly. Good Luck! :)

properly, a stable place to initiate may be the article you link to, ideal on the beginning up of the 2d paragraph the place it says "The learn says no longer something correct to the probabilities of a cataclysmic eruption at Yellowstone". It additionally does no longer say that the volcano is larger, it says the feeder plume is larger, yet this has far extra to do with extra beneficial imaging concepts. if truth be told the plume has probable been that length for somewhat it sluggish and we've in basic terms those days been in a position to wisely photograph it, the two way it does not recommend the volcano is going to erupt. so a procedures as uplift, if it have been sustained then that is a reason for problem besides the undeniable fact that it style of feels that it undergoes classes of uplift and subsidence. The term "late" is thoroughly meaningless whilst utilized to geological phenomena, traditionally Yellowstone has "averaged" approximately six hundred,000 years between eruptions. of direction this ignores the fact that volcanoes are no longer cyclical and are not so predictable. additionally, geologically conversing a "short" quantity of time between now and the eruption would desire to run to a distinctive 10-20 thousand years. even whilst it does erupt there is not any assure that it rather is going to be as huge as human beings look to think of that's going to. So, will it erupt in our lifetimes? consistent with probability however the probability is negligible, are we screwed if it does? no longer inevitably, it relies upon on the place you reside and how huge the eruption is. So the take domicile message is. do no longer problem approximately it, probability is it won't take place on your lifetime and there is not any longer something you're able to do approximately it besides.

Re-install the installation disk on the upstairs computer. If that doesn't work, call the help desk listed on the box or call comcast helpline.'

The best thing to do is call Linksys. It seems it is their router that is not working, and you should be able to get a customer service person to help you over the phone.

EDIT:: You can get a Wireless USB port adapter at you local Comp USA, Radio Shack, Best Buy,, even Wal Mart.

I personally use the 3COM OfficeConnect USB for my home network pf PC's & MAC's, I have been using 3COM products for years and found them to be the most reliable, secure, robust products on the market. You don't have to have a network to use this wireless USB adapter. I am VERY security conscious - especially in my area - too many people scouting for wireless PC's to steal bandwith from.

Purchased a TrendNet from TigerDirect - it did not secure my network from malware 1/2 as well is the 3COM Wireless adapter does.

If not, you need one to complete the setup. Or you can get a USB wireless port adapter to plug in.

ive done the same thing, when it says wirless connection you have to actually have a chip put into your tower to get the signal from the router,so i still had to buy a long usb cable and strech it far enough to reach my other computer in the other room to plug into the tower, sorry for your inconveniance.

did you just buy the router, or did you buy the network card for your 2nd desktop as well? If not it's like buying a cordless phone without the phone. Desktops don't have the nescessary receptive points for a wirelss networks.
