Question:
Do I have a virus on my mac?
2007-07-15 22:32:50 UTC
I was just recently on the internet, doing what I usually do. Now I dont go on any strange sites, just the usual yahoo and myspace ect. The only think that I did differently was that I went on to bebo.com for the first time. After about 15 minutes my safari aplication just randomly shut down on me. I got a message from the mac that said your mac was not harmed during the close of the internet and that I could resume using the browser, so I chose the reopen bottom. But when I did that I got a failed to open page with this strange url as my homepage. (My homepage is normally yahoo.com). I reset the homepage and it all seems to be working normally now, but Im not sure.

I am really new to the whole mac enviroment, so is this a virus?

If so, what should I do to fix this problem? Any good anti virus software that you know about?

Thanks so much for you help.

sure there could be. yet does it ensue? No. might desire to Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton be invaded by North Koreans? sure. Are we in contact that it is going to ensue? No. Mac haters will provide this answer thumbs down all day long, however the nice and comfortable button is this: I double dogs dare you in looking one question on Yahoo solutions by a man or woman who's Mac is contaminated with a scourge. you will no longer discover it. Is it the industry share? in all hazard partly, yet Mac is likewise outfitted from BSD, that's one in each of, if no longer the main preserve working device interior the international. I assure if there ever is a uncomplicated virus for Macs, it is going to require consumer interplay. In different words, it merely isn't like the Sasser, Blaster, or Welchia viruses that infect a (domicile windows) computing gadget merely because of the fact the computing gadget is hooked as much as an analogous community as yet another contaminated gadget. It additionally merely isn't like the Conflicker virus that infects a (domicile windows) computing gadget merely because of the fact which you plug in an contaminated flash stress.

To my knowledge it is practically impossible for a mac to get a virus. No one wants to go to all the trouble to write a virus for a mac because it would be too much work and it's got all kinds of firewalls usually. It should be fine. You don't need another computer, Macs are very reliable and get the job done, usually more efficiently than a pc.

What happened was that your homepage was hijacked by the web site and they put the URL for a web site and if you are not having problems since you reset back to Yahoo it's probably O.K.

It doesn't sound like a virus. But just to be safe in the future, you should install an antivirus program. It's a common mantra that "macs don't get viruses", but it isn't true at all.
