I recently received an ipad only to realize flash is not supported just like the iPhone, iPod touch. I know apple is against adobe which is fine but I'm confused about a few things. What exactly is html5? When will it be available is widespread use? Will apps have to be created by each website to view the content for videos and such to work (like I will have to wait for a hulu app)? A few websites would be really awesome on this thing but almost all my favorite websites are run by flash... So I'm just asking you to please answer my question, include anything else that maybe relevant, and explain it like you are talking to a 5 year old so I can understand. Ha thanks.

HTML is the code used for coding websites, as technology advances though they keep adding to it and improving it. HTML5 is basically the latest version

in theory everyone could start taking full advantage of HTML5 now

in practice though a lot of people use older browsers which don't support HTML5 fully (if at all) even some newer ones don't support ALL bits of HTML5 and web programmers tend to like things that the most common browsers can support, its a bit pointless adding things that the majority of users can't see or take advantage of

When more people switch to browsers that support HTML5 it will start to become more common

to cut a long story short, I wouldn't hold your breath, its unlikely to be a quick change, its been out since 2008

HTML5 has been available since January 2008. It's just another version of HTML specifications for programming in HTML. Check wikipedia for HTML for more info. As for flash, good luck with that. In my opinion Apple should not be allowed to decide what can and cannot be run on a piece of hardware once you by it. In the case of the IPad they basically created a giant IPhone....without the phone. LOL

HTML5 is currently being developed as the next major revision of HTML (HyperText Markup Language), the core markup language of the World Wide Web. It aims to reduce the need for proprietary plug-in-based rich internet application (RIA) technologies such as Adobe Flash, Sumisho Curl Surge RTE and Microsoft Silverlight. HTML5 may also refer to the additional use of CSS3, as both technologies are under development in parallel.

From Wikipedia, the below item expected to see in HTML5.

* The canvas element for immediate mode 2D drawing.

* Timed media playback

* Offline storage database (offline web applications).

* Document editing

* Drag-and-drop

* Cross-document messaging.

* Browser history management

* MIME type and protocol handler registration.

* Microdata.

Try to use your brain sometimes and you'll realize it makes a lot of sense to having to update a computer right out of the box.Your brand new computer may was sitting in the self for a year before you buy it so in this whole year there was a bazillion updates you have to install. When you do this you'll se that IE9 does suppoer HTML5

flash costs $ and html 5 is free.

Should return ipad and wait for an android tablet that supports flash.
