Why do ISP's want to block voip? isnt voip more benificial to ISP's because people would actually need and pay for their service to use voip?

The only downfall that i could think of for ISPs is that they have to handle more bandwith. But i think this is a small cost in comparison to the amount of bandwith people use to download mp3s, movies and large files.

I think you hit the nail right on the head, they don't want to deal with the constant bandwidth demands that VOIP would take. Plus look at the companies that offer high speed accees; Phone Companies who want you to use their service, and Cable companies that often have a competing service.

Someday the Government will figure out how to tax it, but the real iss ue is how IPT ( internet protocol telephony ) is going to impact bandwidth and network capacity. I don't know what the limits are but I am sure the extra bandwidth and traffic will have an impact on the ability of the networks to manage service level agreements and quality of service some time in the not too far off future.

Tracking VoIP calls is indeed a problem that some people don't want to deal with. Another big problem is how to charge for it. Another problem is indeed bandwidth. Still another problem is that they have to support 911 calling in the US and that is a bit tricky for VoIP.

not only is it the bandwidth, but the reduction of telephone use. Most ISP are also phone companies. With the increase of VOIP competitors pricing are poised to drop, so they are avoiding it to keep their profits high.

How do we hit upon that innovations to positioned into our port settings? thanks on your help.

its not just that problem alone. governments force ISPs to do that to ensure survival of telephony. and also its hard to track offenders(terrorists) through voip.
