Question:
Internet Explorer Problem - Web Title?
Divine Error
2007-08-15 13:57:51 UTC
Hi my name is Rob and recently my internet explorer has decided to annoy me.
If you use internet explorer look at the top of your screen.
It tells you what site you're on right? so normally it would probably say Yahoo! Answers or something similar right?
You with me so far?
Well anyway recently after installing a pop-up blocker (STOPzilla 3.0) i then activated it using a crack file.
Now whether it was the crack or pop-up blocker that did it or maybe even something even completely different i don't know.
But now where it says what the name should be it seems to be chinese/japanese writing or something.
either way i came to the wise people of Yahoo! Answers with my problem!
So if anyone knows how i can revert back to english please tell me! please!

Thanking you in advance.
Rob

Uninstall StopZilla. It is not what you think it is. The developers have their own hidden agendas. After you uninstall it, reboot your computer. If your IE still has the same problem, go to windows update and update it. Since you were looking for a popup blocker, I bet you didnt have the latest IE -- Version 7. It has built in pop up blocker. Firefox is still a much better choice to IE, though.

First try to do a system restore from "help and support"; works with Me, XP, Vista. Preferably go back to a date prior to STOPzilla. Then try using Google Pop-Up Blocker, Free with Google tool bar.

You might have to use system restore to a date before you installed it.

=======================

YOU DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL POP UP BLOCKERS!!!!

Internet Explorer 7, Firefox, and Opera have perfectly good built in pop-up blockers. They must be enabled to work. After they are enabled pop-ups should be rare.

IE7 : Tools > pop up blocker > turn on

Firefox: Tools > options > content >Check "block pop up windows

Opera: Tools > Quick Preferences > Block unwanted pop-ups

If you get more than 3 pop ups per day with the browser pop up blocker enabled, you are infected with malware. If you follow all the following steps it should get rid of your problem and prevent future problems. All programs listed are free.

Note if a scan detects a problem but is unable to remove, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.

In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.

Right click on "my computer"> Properties > System Restore Tab > Check box turn of system restore

After the malware is removed turn on system restore.
