I am in college on line and I graduate middle June. My husband and I are getting out of the military so we are moving from Hawaii to the mainland. I will still have homework for almost 3 weeks after we get back to the mainland and will need to have internet access anywhere anytime.

So, having said that I was thinking about getting Verizon broadband usb modem since my husband has verizon. I was looking at the plans and I have no idea what it means! Rather than paying a monthly bill for unlimited access you pay a monthly amount for a certain amount of internet access... and the highest amount is 5GB... I have no clue what this means?! Does this mean I can only access a certain amount of websites? Please someone help me understand what this means and tell me how much internet access it means I have (describe in words that doesnt include GB and MB and all that because I have no clue what it means). I have to do alot of research for my classes so I would have to go through a ton and ton of websites.
If this is not the best option for me does anyone know where I can buy internet for my lap top unlimited access anywhere for a monthly rate?
10 points for the best answer!
Thanks!

well GB stands for gigabyte, and MB stands for Megabyte, and KB stands for kilabyte. there are 1024 KB in a MB, and 1024 MB in a GB. typically, a website is around 100-200 KB. so doing the math, you can usually visit around 35000 websites before you reach the limit, so if only doing research you should be fine. however, things like youtube videos or downloading music and movies takes MUCH more space. for instance, the average mp3 is about 3.5MB, which is much much larger than a typical website.

I believe if you will only use the internet for research, this could even be overkill, and for most people, even with watching online videos they do not hit the limit. just don't think you will be able to download any HD movies from netflix or anything!

Being that your husband already has Verizon I would call them and ask them what options they have that would meet your needs. Maybe you can piggy back off your husbands service or get a discount because he already has it. I just recently bought my son a BlackBerry Storm 2 cell phone through Verizon cause we have had Verizon for ever.

That includes Internet, home phone, and Fios TV. So we get all 4 things on one bill and get a great discount for the package deal. When I upgraded the cell phones, and because we got the BlackBerry Storm 2 we were offered a Lap top notebook computer for nothing as long as we paid the monthly charge of $39.99 extra a month for the internet charge. Which was for 250 GB for the month. If we went over the usage of the 250 GB we would get charged for each additional minute we used, and it was all wireless.

You could go anywhere in the country and have the internet without having to worry about a connection from anyone or any place. Even if you were in your car and wanted to get on the internet you can. Of course it all sounded great but we turned down the offer cause we both have are own desk top computers at home, internet on are cell phones and on are ipod touches. I think that is plenty. We spend to much time on the computers anyway. So you should give Verizon a call an see what they can do for you. It can't hurt you never know what is in store for you. Well good luck an hope you find what you need.

Do you only have a certain amount available per month or you just wanna know for the sake of knowing? If there's a limit I'd suggest finding a different ISP. To the poster that said the $10 a month thing that's just crazy. $10 here gets you the slowest dial up service there is full of ads. Who wants that? I pay $45 a month for 8 Meg per sec download speeds. I guess it depends on how important the Internet is and how much time you spend on it. Don't know any usage programs sorry.
