Question:
It Has Been Over 2 Hours And Ebayer Still Hasn't Paid For Item, Can I Cancel His Order?

I'm tired of people not paying immediately.. I messaged him twice with no response. It's been well over 2 hours and eBay says to wait 48 hours but that is way to long. Other people want this item as well and I need the money. Can I cancel this order now since he hasn't paid within the window I told him to?

You can't even open an unpaid item dispute yet.....

If you didn't directly state in your listing when you expect to get paid or use the immediate payment required option then they have several days before you can relist it. List it now and someone buys it later tonight and then they end up paying tomorrow and they will report you as a non preforming seller to eBay. Your seller ranking goes down and you may find it difficult to sell anything at all in the future.

Buyers have 48 hours to pay

Why would you be freaked out if someone didn't pay in 2 hours? People are at work. People are asleep. People are enjoying a nice day out with their families. People are on a date. People are sick. People are driving. People are shopping. People are at school

Their life does not revolve around paying you immediately

They may have clicked Buy it Now which takes 2 seconds, but don't yet have the time to actually pay you at the moment

You haven't though they might be doing something else?

Like going to work?

Sleeping?

Out for dinner and a movie?

Something other than organising a transaction that they have 48 hours to complete?

If you cancel, YOU get the bad feedback.

When I used eBay auctions, I would look at the auctions once a day and address any that I had one or got outbid on.

Please remember that people often have a life and won't be sitting in front of a keyboard waiting for the auction to close so they can pay you. Most of us have jobs that we have to go to that take up at least 8 hours of our lives so we can pay for the things we buy on eBay. And of course, if someone works nights, they may be asleep in the afternoon until it's time to start their graveyard shift.

Be patient. Not everyone is going to respond immediately to messages, and not everyone is going to bid and then refuse to pay you. It's why eBay suggests waiting up to two days to hear from the buyer.

As a seller on eBay, your goal (I assume) should be to sell stuff. You won't sell too much if word gets around that you cancel people's winning bids because they don't respond the moment that the auction closes. No offense, but I know I would never buy from you again if you did that to me. There are many other sellers out there to choose from.

I like to compare this to what would happen in a retail store. If I went to Walmart, they would ask me to pay for my purchase at the cash. But if they then kick me out of the store because I was not ready with my credit card in hand when I got to the cash, I would never be back and warn all my friends not to shop there.

UPDATE: So they clicked on Buy Now. And then their elderly grandmother had a fall and had to be rushed to the hospital. Or he agreed and then was going out with friends and was going to address the issue of payment when they got back later in the evening. There are dozens of reasons why someone might not pay right away. One thing to remember... You should still have the item. Your policy should be that you don't ship until payment is confirmed.

Yes, if they Buy Now and then refuse to pay, you'll have to re-list. But now you can sell for the original price. eBay policy is that if you accept an auction or use the Buy Now, you are committed to that purchase. So complain about the user to eBay and have their account suspended or cancelled.

I gave someone four days to pay, sent her an invoice, sent her a couple or really nice emails saying let me know when you've paid and I'll get the item off to you pronto, but she never answered. Had to ask ebay to let me close it and relist. But I did give her four days!

I assume you've sent him an invoice. Be patient. He might be out of town. Look up on ebay and see what the procedures are. He's under contract to pay you, so the law is on your side. If he doesn't pay he can be removed from ebay. Like I said, look up the protocol on ebay first.

Ever had to go to work? Ever had an emergency of some kind come up? Ever had and interruption in your internet service? All of these things have happened to me before, so unless your required an immediate payment, the buyer has a couple of days to complete the transaction.

Nope, they have up to 48 hours to pay, in most cases. You need to be patient.
