I get the usual "This page cannot be displayed" when I try to connect. I have contacted tech support several times and I still have the same problem. I use Earthlink DSL. I have tried clearing my cache etc. I use Firefox, but have the same problem with IE etc. When I go to the diagnostics page for my modem it will tell me everything is connected fine. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The only solution that I have found is to restart my computer. What happens when I restart that causes it to work?

Help!!

When you get the "This page cannot be displayed" message, you might try to hit it again. It may be what has happened is that your DSL modem has lost its IP address from the DHCP server. This negotiation can sometimes take a couple of seconds to complete. Just give it another try in a few seconds after you get the first message. I see similar stuff if I try to use some sort of client like Quicken before I have an active connection. The reboot may be clearing the problem because on reboot, the DSL modem "pings" DHCP to get its IP address and that process completes prior to you trying to hit the internet. <\Just a guess>

Check your security settings in the browser and maybe your firewall settings. It could be that the computer is purposely locking things up during periods of long inactivity to keep itself safe from intrusion. You might also call Earthlink and ask tech support if they have any ideas about it.

It sounds like your computer is stuck in sleep mode. Go into Control Panel, Power Options, make sure system standby is on never.

it might even be the router, or the dsl cable transfer that you plug the phone cable into, might be turning off
