Spam is basically slang for "junk" it can range from spam mail which is just junk e-mail with fake ads or spamming comments on myspace. This means posting the same comment over and over.

spam is email you dont want

trying to sell you something etc

if your new on the internet you WILL get some

i am getting spam because of mistakes i made 10 years ago

have stopped most

Here is what you need to do to protect your self

1 - never reply to an email you dont know who it is

2 - in your search around the internet you will be offered tons and tons of free stuff

They ALL need your email address

this is how spam, spy ware, virus"s,pop ups

etc etc get sent to you

3 - fix that this way

there are tons of free email accounts other

than the one you have now

the one you have now which needs to be yahoo because it scans your email for virus"s

this should only be used with people you know

here is what you do-go to yahoo search

type in free email

create account(s) to get mail for all this free stuff etc

if you download something as you will be offered tons and tons TONS of free downloads

this does not load in your email it goes to your hard drive

now it is possible to have spam, spy ware, virus"s,pop ups etc etc

on your hard drive BAD BAD BAD

advice for now go slow

dont download what you dont about

DON"T give password credit card info etc over the internet

UNSAFE

go slow

post more questions

unlike me there are many smart people here to answer you questions

BUT you give no one personal information

SURF SAFE

I want to help people and i ask

questions to.This is a good way to help

both of us.If my answers work for you

please vote me best answer.I took the time

to answer, please take the time to vote for

who had the best answer, who ever that

may be

This the only way i know i helped you.

Have a good day

What is spam?

Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam costs the sender very little to send -- most of the costs are paid for by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.

There are two main types of spam, and they have different effects on Internet users. Cancellable Usenet spam is a single message sent to 20 or more Usenet newsgroups. (Through long experience, Usenet users have found that any message posted to so many newsgroups is often not relevant to most or all of them.) Usenet spam is aimed at "lurkers", people who read newsgroups but rarely or never post and give their address away. Usenet spam robs users of the utility of the newsgroups by overwhelming them with a barrage of advertising or other irrelevant posts. Furthermore, Usenet spam subverts the ability of system administrators and owners to manage the topics they accept on their systems.

Email spam targets individual users with direct mail messages. Email spam lists are often created by scanning Usenet postings, stealing Internet mailing lists, or searching the Web for addresses. Email spams typically cost users money out-of-pocket to receive. Many people - anyone with measured phone service - read or receive their mail while the meter is running, so to speak. Spam costs them additional money. On top of that, it costs money for ISPs and online services to transmit spam, and these costs are transmitted directly to subscribers.

One particularly nasty variant of email spam is sending spam to mailing lists (public or private email discussion forums.) Because many mailing lists limit activity to their subscribers, spammers will use automated tools to subscribe to as many mailing lists as possible, so that they can grab the lists of addresses, or use the mailing list as a direct target for their attacks.

Spam is any email that is unwelcome for example from advertisers offering you stuff you never signed up for. It's normally also called junk email and trust me, it piles up pretty fast!!
