Firefox is faster, more compatible, and WAY more stable than ANY software written by Apple for a PC. It also has thousands more add-ons than safari ever could dream of having.

Thew new Firefox 3.1 beta (with codemonkey engine) is FAST! as compared to IE or safari.

Do NOT un-install Internet Exploder... IE is absolutely *required* by the operating system for automated security patch installation. You can set Firefox to be the "default" browser, but don't try to un-install IE...

If you have already made your mind up that far I would go with Firefox over Safari, if only for the fact that more people use Firefox so there is a greater community to draw help from if something goes wrong.

If you have an open mind try Google Chrome, it is still catching up to Firefox in certain aspects, but it handles system memory much more efficiently, and has a better browser layout. The one catch is Chrome's pop up blocker simply hides the pop up in the lower right, helps if you need the pop ups on certain sites, but if its an ad and it has audio it will still play through.

As for IE, you can remove it, just make sure you do it cleanly/ I would keep it around as a backup browser just in case. There was one site while I was in the navy that refused to even serve you anything unless you were using IE and I didn't have the time to jack around with Firefox to get it to work.

LocalRodeo is a Firefox extension that aims to protect against attacks which lately have been summarized under the term JavaScript Malware.

LocalRodeo specifically counters two attack vectors:

* Intranet Exploration (i.e. JavaScript portscanning and fingerprinting):

The extension classifies all network locations to be either local or external, with local locations being part of the intranet. All http requests that have an external origin (i.e. were generated within the execution context of an external

webpage) and a local target (i.e. an intranet resource) are canceled by LocalRodeo.

* Anti DNS-Pinning: LocalRodeo detect this attack method by monitoring DNS answers. The switch of a given domain from external to local (or vice versa) is a clear indication of an anti-pinning attack. If such a switch is detected, all further requests from or to the malicious domain are prohibited.
