If you send it from your own computer, it is possible to track the source of the email.
I'm curious why you want to send an email using a false name. If it's for nefarious purposes, or if it's because you are afraid to face someone, I oppose it.
But I've done the same thing before. It's just never been anything important enough for someone to try to track me down.

oh yes.... all you gotta do is crack open the e-mail header, and track the IP Address in it.
Here's an example using an e-mail from the last prick to send me a Phishing scam e-mail:

According to the automatic spam reporting tool @ http://spamcop.net I can tell it actually came from IP Address 87.50.100.127 and originated from what appears to be an ISP from Denmark

Yes they can still see your eMail ID, irrespective of the name you have mentioned.
Normally no one bothers if they receive a stupid mail, but if the mail is about a bomb threat or something then only they try to track it.

Doing it yourself you need to spoof both your email address AND your IP address.
It's easier just to go through one of the anonymous remailers on the net.

It's called a "spoof" and it's not hard to track you.
