I hand paint custom shoes and headphones. I sell them to people who live around me and go to school with. People hear about me from other people and stuff. I don't want to use ebay (because they take a lot if money from things you sell). I was thinking maybe etsy.com but I really just want to make a website. Like my friends cousin has a small business where he makes stuff and he sells in on his own website and he owns the url or what ever. But I don't want to have to pay for it because I'm only in high school and I don't have the money to do that.

Help?(:

Do etsy. Your own personal website will be hard for the general masses to find. Especially if its not something they would think to shop for on their own. At least with etsy its wicked cheap to list (20 cents) and they dont rape your profits like ebay.

I would at least start out on etsy or ebay. Having your own website is cool and maybe something to shoot for, but its not very logical for starting out. No one will see it.

You can do 2 different things. Use ebay and sell that way, its simple, but it will cost you a little in ebay fees. Or you could start up a free wordpress site. But making your own website means you have to promote, so it could be hard for people to actually find your shoes then, long term your own website might be good, but short term, you wont see much traffic to your site for at least a few months.

I only buy from sites that allow payment with paypal. There is just too much risk to bother with the others. Generally, if I am paying with paypal I will trust them, especially because asian countries are the ones which sell directly cheap stuff. If I am buying off a website I tend to type their name into a search engine and try to find some feedback or discussion from other users on it. If there is nothing, I won't buy off them, if it is negative, saying the goods never arrived I won't either. Sometimes I also email them and ask them a general question about the item. You can tell by their answers sometimes if their legit.

Have you considered having your own storefront? You might want to look into it cause it's a perfect parallel branding methodology to have your own online-store and best of all it's DIY...

Sell anything & everything, make your OWN online store with EASE! Plus, make it look like real professionally done - without "hiring" any professionals...Ha haa :) They also enable FREE SSL certificate!!!

Do NOT settle for less, for sophisticated Apple-style storefront; visit:

http://app.highwire.com/?ref=free (this one is my favorite because not only offers totally FREE Facebook-Store selling service but your online new-store is 100% mobile compatible)

OR

http://www.shopify.com/?ref=freejk (this one is good because they have plugins/apps which enable you to integrate other channels such as ebay / amazon / inventory system / etc) ....Happy Selling!
