I'm selling my used laptop on eBay. I was contacted by a potential buyer but there's something I'm somewhat unsure about.

He says he has reached his bidding restrictions due to his wife overusing the account to bid on bags but would like to buy it. He is requesting my Paypal email to send me a payment.

He is not a new member, he's been registered since 2000 and has a score of "21", with no negative reviews and some "would do business again/good buyer/sent payment on time" kind of comments. The thing that's totally off to me is that he is offering me more money than I am requesting, about +500, basically the price of a new model of that laptop. He says shipment will be like 200 because it's overseas and he sent me the address to verify the cost.

Something about this screams fishy to me! I'm not sure if I could be victim of a fraud by someone knowing my paypal email address to send me a payment.

I need assurance. Am I right to be worried or is it okay to proceed?

Thanks.

Do not sell to this person. It is against eBay rules for him to ask you to sell your item outside of an auction in progress. Always be suspicious of people that do this type thing on there.

Clearly fraudulent, turn him in to eBay too if you know how.

"Due to the high potential for fraud, we don’t allow buyers and sellers to complete sales outside of eBay. These sales are not eligible for Feedback or requests for contact information."

As the two an ebay broking and client, I say pay attention. attempt to touch her with the help of digital mail so as that this is documented. in a well mannered way yet assertively state which you haven't any longer won the confirmation of the tickets and the contract replaced into which you pay upon receipt of confirmation. Ask her to resend confirmation so as that the subject might properly be resolved. tell her which you will supply her 24 hours to respond on your request in the previous you report a dispute.with ebay. do no longer PAY FOR THE TICKETS till you have won YOUR confirmation THAT THE TICKETS ARE BEING introduced! truly, it sounds like she has been scamming from the initiating. If she does no longer deliver you confirmation then report a dispute with ebay based on your purchase no longer being won. good success

It's a scam , ebay warns you about those fraudulent type of offers.

especially from overseas, like Nigeria, Cameroon, and those places.

they tell you all kind of stories, i.e. they are missionaries, they are exchange students ,etc. They do the same with pets, they put ads to give a pet away and then they tell you to just pay shipping and after you do so you never get a pet. they almost got me with that but thanks God i started reading about scams and detected the pattern.

the buyer doesn't have to ask for your paypal email, that's private info.

they also build fake accounts and have buddies writing feedback for them. I don't do business with anyone overseas period, ebay doesn't have the same tools to back you up internationally. But anyway, you are right, I can tell you are intelligent and already know is a scam, you just want to confirm your suspicions.

I have been a seller for about 3 years don't do this! I don't recommend selling outside of the auction! Also I have been warned that some people offer you more money for the product and its a scam!

That is against ebay policy. DO NOT proceed with this transaction. It could get you both banned.

It does seem fishy to me as well. If you post it on ebay, it has to sell through ebay. I had a guy who bought some door hinges, off of my old Buick from me, who wanted to buy them after the auction ended, I told him that I would sell them to him, but I needed to relist it, and then he could buy them, using buy it now. Everything went smooth.

But you need to repost it, for him to buy it from you.

This sounds fishy to me to. If he has the money why doesn't he put it into the account. If it sounds to good, you've heard that before.

I wouldn't have a thing to do with this.
