Question:
Someone Threatened to Hack Me?

Hello,

I got into a disagreement with someone, and they managed to find my IP, which, clearly, wasn't accurate. I told him that I lived somewhere else and gave a fake address.

He did threaten to hack my Twitter account, and my blog. Is this possible?

I've taken every safety precaution - I've made sure to change my passwords with lots of different characters and capital letters. If he tried to get into my google account, it asks for a verification code that has been sent to my cell phone, so it's impossible for him to get into it, correct?

Another thing including Twitter:

He has made over 100 accounts, and I'm not kidding around. Me and my friend made a list - he stalks us from every angle. I've made sure to make my Twitter account private, and that doesn't seem to do anything. He has been hacking other accounts to spy on us. Since he has so many accounts, he has suspended me TWICE from blocking me on all of his accounts. Same with my friend. Should I email Twitter support about this? I'd like to have him IP - banned.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

1. Your IP can not be traced back to your actual home address. It can only be traced back to your ISP.

2. You did the right thing by changing your passwords. Make sure you change your passwords on ALL of your accounts. Make them very strong like you said. this is an example of a strong password:

XzM438k**7

One other thing you can do. Create entirely new accounts. Twitter, Facebook etc. What ever accounts he is messing with. DON"T use your name or anything he can use to ID you.

Only tell your close friends your new user-name.

Make up a fictitious user name.

Stop using the old accounts and remove any personnel info from them. Don't delete them, just stop using them. He will keep using them to no avail.

You have done all you can change the passwords, also change your user names as well if this is at all practical and make sure there all different on every account and all the passwords are different. Its not impossible but highly improbable then he can hack anything.

What is his end game though and why do you know so much about him? If you have proof that he has hacked thse accounts you should see if the police are interested.

People can only trace the IP to a certain area you know that right? Not your house, unless they already know it.

It is possible but you'll find that most of the people who claim they'll hack your Twitter account do not have the capability to do so. Made a false threat back, something like you've called the government and reported him for breaching the computer misuse act or something.

Use strong alphanumeric password and enable two factor authentication on both your Twitter and Google accounts

https://twitter.com/devices

https://accounts.google.com/b/0/SmsAuthSettings

With two factor authentication enabled, the hacker would need BOTH password and code sent to your mobile. Since the hacker doesn't have access to your cellphone, it's impossible to hack
