You can fully uninstall Internet Explorer. Microsoft was sued decades ago for tying IE to the operating system. Its only that it is a Microsoft product and it does integrate better with the OS than other browsers. I would upgrade to IE 9 until IE 10 comes out. You may need IE for somethings. Just make Chrome your default browser.
IE uninstalls from the Windows Update list. You'll not find it listed in the Programs listing for other programs that can be uninstalled.

In windows you can NEVER fully uninstall IE, because the OS its self and other programs (google chrome included) use IE's components to access the internet. Sure you can "uninstall" it from the programs window in the control panel but its components will be left hind for other programs to use. Thus actually making your computer less secure as windows update will not be updating your IE and it components . Leaving your computer more vulnerable to attacks.
My advice is to leave it installed and allow windows to update just for security reasons.

Yes, IE sucks anyway.
