My neighbor has a computer problem and I can't figure out how to help him. Usually, I can find a way to fix just about any hardware problem or internet connectivity problem but this one has me stumped. Everytime he loads a website in IE the page loads but nothing appears in the browser. It says, "done" at the bottom and "unknown zone" but regardless of what page he loads, nothing appears in the browser. He has a strong signal and is definitely connecting to the internet. This one has me stumped.

I suspect he has a firewall blocker or a virus blocker that is causing the problem.

Check these out.

Also go to command prompt (start, run - type in cmd and hit enter to get to command prompt). In command prompt type "ping 4.2.2.2" without quotes and hit enter. You should receive 4 positive responses. If not you have a config problem. Next type in "ping yahoo.com" without quotes and hit enter. You should receive 4 positive responses. If not you have a DNS config problem with your router or your pc. Fix these. If you have positive responses to these ping tests you have a problem with security or firewall settings.

OH FOR CHRIST SAKE!!

Come on guys.. this guy has IE7 and needs to set up his browser.

Some sites will do this as some sites do not support the IE7 structure for browsing. I have seen this on some sites with the same results. (Porn, Adult Sites, Banking Site) so from there you DO have options. Either STAY off of them, or try another browser and see if you can see that/those sites then. Bet you can!

Let me know.

Download the programs linked below. Install them. Update them. Scan your pc with them, and do so weekly.

If you have System Restore turned on, the Restore files may be infected, and trying to reinfect your pc. I turn off that feature, reboot to delete the files, then turn it on after a full system scan with AVG.

Turning off System Restore.

(right-click My Computer, Properties, System Restore tab, check the box to turn off System Restore on all drives.)

Restart your PC, and hold down the F8 key.

When you see the Boot Menu appear (black screen white letters), choose SAFE MODE.

Run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN with AVG.

You an heal or quarentine anything found.

You can also run Spybot and AdAware while in Safe Mode. I suggest you do a full system scan. Get rid of anything they find.

To exit Safe Mode, just restart your PC normally.

AVG Antivirus - Free Antivirus Software

Ad-Aware - Free Antispyware Software

Spybot Search&Destroy - Free Antispyware/Antitrojan Software

One REALLY great feature of Spybot Search&Destroy, is its ability to help your PC block known spyware/hijacker sites. Just use the Immunize feature.

Hope this helps.
