There was no need to uninstall the IE. Simply install the Firefox browser and open it. Then it asks you do you want to keep it as default browser. Press yes. And don't import anything from IE.

You need to know very little. Keep Avast and junk the rest, particularly Threatfire. Firefox comes with AVG, which is a fine and self-updating automatic antivirus, an antispyware, and an antipopup. With windows I might go to download.com and substitute Spybot Search and Destroy for Avast, but it's a matter of taste. Then I'd disable MS's cheesy firewall and add the free version of Ad-Aware (for cookie control) and the free firewall from lavasoft.com. They're wonderful people with good support. You are now virtually bulletproof.

All you have to do with IE is double-right-click on your desktop icon--it'll hide it so you won't try to use it out of habit. Then I'd go in and make sure that IE doesn't start up automatically when you boot up--it'll slow your general speed if you just leave it there.

I use both a Mac and a Dell Inspiron, and I took the advice of smart people and run both machines on Firefox with the above modifications. How sweet it is to have no hassles!! You can also search the Firefox site for some other goodies, too, and install toolbar.google.com and toolbar.yahoo.com. Also (optional) bookmark goodsearch.com for ranked searches that eliminate the google overkill and also give to charity (mine is audiohope.org; I treat autistic kids), and install metacrawler.com for a meta-engine that runs 6 search engines at once. And all this stuff is FREE. Hoo hoo. I got to be NOT a novice by asking people, and you're doing exactly the right thing. I'm 65 years old, by the way.

The 'Do Not Remove' IE answers are correct.

IE is deeply woven into Windows OS & would break beyond human endurance to fix it.

I use and recommend a simultaneous dual browser arrangement:

You can have as many different browsers open as you want at the same time , without significant slowdowns.

Use FF for general & everyday surfing needs, especially to sites you don't know anything about. Depending on how many plug-in's and add-on's you "hang" onto FF, it's faster than IE, & inherently safer.

Note: Current threats include 'Antivirus 2009' or variants.

Because architecture of the Internet (notably 'Flash' scripting), vulnerabilities are readily exploited in Internet Explorer, & it is now urgent that you use Firefox with current 'NoScript' add-on, which will prevent "opacity-based attacks".

NoScript: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...

Try viewing a site with FF first, and if it does not allow the interaction you require, switch & use IE (but only when it's absolutely necessary), or to use 'Active X' or 'Flash' scripting: but use these at your own peril. Flip back to FF when finished.

1. many consider firefox to be better than ie, more secure and stable for a start, ie is part of windows so can't be removed just leave it be and install firefox

2. all you need to do is install firefox from mozillas website, firefox is a fully compatible browser to ie

3. i would recommend dropping comodo and threatfire and just keep avast too many security programs just conflict with each other i just use avast and have NO viruses

i use ie at the moment but have used firefox and its great, i use ie at the moment because i restored my laptop when the OS got corrupted and havent switched back yet

1) You can remove IE, but I suggest you don't. Some things are only able to be viewed on IE (very rare, but still), and it's kind of a pain to get it installed again. So just keep it there and not use it.

2) No, just install Firefox and select it as your default browser. It has a lot of options for customization and tweaking, all it needs is a little search. There are really very few things Mozilla has trouble with (fewer than IE), as long as you keep it updated.

3) Not really.

1. Firefox is certainly better. But you can't uninstall ie as it is a part of your Windows OS. So you can't remove it.

2. No, there will be no compatibility problems.

3. No software will have a problem due to firefox. Only you will have to configure your download manager so that it is integrated in the browser. I have not used FreeDownloadManager, but it will be somewhere in settings. Search for it.

1)You can't uninstall IE. Microsoft built it into the OS so you cant get rid of it.

2) Firefox has a ton of addons just dont get too crazy adding too many but they are pretty dang cool.

3) I trust avast. But not the other stuff you mentioned.

Avast, Spybot & Super Anti-Spyware pretty much cover it for me.

1. I dont think you can uninstall ie because it is probably a default file that is why it is there when you buy a new computer.

2. All you need to do is install it and BAM everythin works.

3. I do not think you need to do anything for it to run properly!

I would recommend Safari for Windows. Not only is Safari the fastest web browser available, it has high security features. You would have no problems running Safari.

Try it out.

Firefox sure is better, but is a memory hog. You can fix the hog but it stills will use much ram. You should try Safari.

you do no longer ought to "change" to IE and then returned to firefox, as such, you may merely open information superhighway explorer from the two the commencing up menu, laptop icon, or by ability of [initiate][run] as indexed above, then pass to the internet site and do what you should do. although (i think of i will see the place your question is coming from), once you open IE it relatively is going to probable ***** that it's not the default browser and ask you in case you desire to make it the default. you may fortunately press no/cancel at this component and IE will nonetheless merrily load, yet will go away firefox as your default browser. in case you _do_ locate that IE has made itself default (or you clicked definite/ok whilst IE began) you may easily fix this by ability of loading firefox manually, then choosing [methods][strategies], pass to the "significant" tab and there ought to be an option on the backside to make firefox the default browser. As a footnote, i'd email the positioning and ask/*****-approximately why they are forcing human beings to apply IE to get admission to their internet site. you additionally can component out that folk who do no longer use living house windows is merely no longer waiting to alter over to IE such as you may, and is merely no longer waiting to apply their internet site's purposes in any respect!
