I'm not sure if this is Comcast or not but my internet slows way down when downloading a large file?

I had to format the Windows partition of my iMac a few days ago and I am in the process of putting everything back on. The problem is I have a lot of games that are large files. A 10GB game has taken around 13 hours to download. It should not take more than a half hour as I have the 105 Blast from Comcast. Is it normal for the internet to slow down when downloading or could it just be my location? We have had problems in the past with the internet where I am. But Comcast said they fixed the issues.

They might be throttling you, but it's most likely a server or line condition issue. Check speedtest.net to verify your burst download. Then use download managers like FDM to split the file into large numbers of segments, so you'll always be resuming the D/L and taking advantage of a new burst.

Have you tried downloading using a download accelerator? A simple download accelerator like DownloadThemAll! for Firefox (which installs as plugin) has shown significant improvement in download speeds especially downloading large files

You can't download any faster than the server uploads.
