Question:
Mozilla Firefox cant find server
2008-07-31 16:13:29 UTC
I cant load any pages on my computer(I'm using my sister's laptop).
I use Mozilla Firefox. When I opened up Mozilla I got to a page which said
"Address Not Found"
Firefox can't find the server at http://www.__________
The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.
# Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. "ww.mozilla.org" instead of "www.mozilla.org")
# Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have expired.
# Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.
# Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

That is what the page says. Any Ideas of how to fix this?
also if you are a computer expert why is my computer so slow? I defragment it today and it took 2 hours and the computer is still slow and it might even be slower than before I defragment it.
Please help me on both questions!

This could be because you have a proxy enabled, thats what usually happens if you do have it enabled.

to disable this "Proxy"

on firefox

Goto > options > advanced > settings

Be sure its selected as "No Proxy"

then press okay.

Or this can be because your modem is not currently running

So, reconnect to your computer.

to be sure you are connected

( if you have xp: goto run and type in cmd, and write in ipconfig inside it ) for vista, search cmd, and open it, type in ipconfig

if the ip comes up as 0.0.0.0 that means your disconnected

Goto your modem, unplug everything, then plug it in again.

leave it out for 30 secs.

if this is not working its probably a problem with your isp server

if its not that. i suggest you call your local ISP.

There's something wrong with your internet connection. It's either not connected, or it's really slow. There's nothing wrong with Firefox.

Secondly, there are a lot of different reasons your computer could be slow. Starting from Viruses, and ending at age. Have you installed any new software lately? You can also hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, and look at the Processes tab to see what's taking up so much of your CPU, and you can close it if you know what you're doing. There could also be stuff starting up when Windows boots that slows your computer down.

Get the software I've linked to... It'll help get rid of a lot of unnecessary files (temporary and otherwise), and it'll get it done a lot faster than you could do it yourself.

Hope that helps

Your computer could be slow because it is too old for all the new high-speed programmes you have on it at the moment.

Try deleting as many programs and data as you possibly can.

Have you tried restarting your computer? If so, then uninstall Firefox and then reinstall it.

Although you could also have a virus on your computer. Have you run a virus/spyware check?

If its only certin sites their servers could be down, so you wont be abel to get to their sites, so FF pops up this message.

and theire can be many resons why your pc could be slow.

but for good measurermove tempory fiels, cAche, interent fiels wtc n run a registry clean wiht Ccleaner (also use it to remove soem "Start-up" progrmas that are usally the main culprit for slowing you pc, by loading themselves up when the Pc starts ecven if thier not needed.
