Call 877-947-3327 to sign-up for PeoplePC. They can tell you if their service is available in your area, and how to get it setup. Since they may have to mail you a CD to install their software, this solution may take a few days. Alternatively, you can call 800-NET-ZERO to sign-up for NetZero dial-up. Both of these services each cost around $10 per month.

Meanwhile, save your assignments to a disk or flash drive, then take them to a friend's house who has Internet access. Or even to a FedEx/Kinko's (or whatever store or cybercafe will let you access the Internet via their computers).

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Mimi, here are several dial-up internet providers that you might want to call:

New Netscape® Nitro™:

Call 1-866-NETSCAPE (1-866-638-7227)

NetZero:

Call 1-800-NETZERO (1-800-638-9376)

Canadian ISP.com:

Call 613-582-7056

Primus Dial Up:

Call 1-877-704-4269

Dial-Ups.com:

Toll-Free in US and Canada: 877-771-0993

Meanwhile, while waiting the dial-ups to be installed or the high speed internet connection to be restored, you can go to internet cafés or libraries (other than your university library) in order to use their high speed internet connection. The other alternative is to borrow one of your friends' internet.

1> Contact an ISP - Internet Service Provider

like AOL, NetZero, AT&T

2> Contact your local phone company to verify that the

dial number you are connecting to is local access to avoid

toll or long distance charges.

3> Create a dial-up connection from your PC.

You can do it on the phone or you can just use one of those discs they mail you (AOL sends alot of em and everyone has them) to install a dial up program. That is the easiest and cheapest way as well as the fastest. Dont forget to hook up the phone line into the modem on the computer. Good luck!
