IE 7 is running two programs one is taking a ton of memory. I can't close it, if I end the process it says: the tab has been recovered. What can I do about this? I have XP and run a virus and maleware scan.

That bit about the tab being automatically recovered worries me. It sounds like a protection technique used by malware. Try restarting your machine, then seeing if IE come up by itself (don't bring it up). If it does, you have malware, and need something better than what you're already using.
In particular, I think some variants of Smitfraud run as or through Internet Explorer, but that's not gospel.
Good luck.

end them both, reboot, and deny the recovery.
