My old OS became corrupted and thus would not boot. As a result, I reinstalled Windows 7 on a new partition and would like to recover the bookmarks and history on my OLD firefox on my old OS. I can't seem to find any folder or file that does that.
I can't boot and do the whole exporting bookmarks thing basically and would like a different way to salvage bookmarks.

Here's the folder where all your Firefox bookmarks and other settings are saved...

Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Windows Vista/7:

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.

Just copy the from the old OS partition to the new partition :)

Firefox bookmarks are backed up in files with the extension .json, for example

bookmarks-2010-11-04.json

So find that file and import it into Firefox. Click on Bookmarks> Organize Bookmarks> Import and Backup> Restore> Choose File and select the .json file that you found.

I don't think there is anyway to recover and import the history.

"FEBE" add-on will copy almost all of the Firefox environment from the old, and move it to the new system, making the new Ffox just like the old one.

Look in https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109/

On your desktop, create a folder ("FEBE" or your choice).

Then, in FF, > Tools> FEBE> FEBE options> Options tab: for a complete BU of all items (for re-creating Firefox on another system), tick "Both"; bu 'extensions' & 'themes'; and Additional items, drop menu, "Select all" @ the bottom of window.

You also need to set the 'destination' while here:

Top tabs, "Directory"> Browse> (locate that desktop folder you made). The filepath should now be in the top slot.

To back up: In FF> Tools> FEBE> Perform backup.

This is assuming you can get the old OS up (somehow).

Next time use FEBE regularly, saved to external media, so you don't have meltdowns.

If you still have access to your old C drive, search for "bookmarks.html" and replace your new bookmarks.html with the old one. (make sure you search within hidden files and folders). I would tell you the file path but I'm a linux user so the path is different. I think it's something like C:/My Documents/Program Data/.... (but I'm not sure)

I recommend you to use google bookmarks and this firefox addon:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2448/

That way you can access your bookmarks from anywhere and they wont be affected by system crashes and such.

In FireFox flow to "Bookmarks" then "organize bookmarks" on the precise of the window that pops up click "returned up and restore". opt for returned up it is going to maintain it as a JSON record. to repair in simple terms do the 1st 3 steps different than decide for restore. opt for decide for record and navigate to the place the backup record became stored sturdy luck
