I want to start a blog, and I was wondering if I should use Wordpress. I am really a beginning programmer, so I don't really understand wordpress at this moment, but I was thinking about buying a book and using the net to learn how to use it.----But I do need my own URL, and I don't want to use blogger or a .wordpress.com type url. So, my question is, is this the right platform? I want to blog, put on some podcasts and maybe some youtube video , google/other ads on it.

what do you think?

also, provide any good links to any good and "reputable" material

I'm running three blogs on WordPress, two of which have occasionally embedded video. There are plugins to support podcasts and most ad packages.

I don't think of myself as a programmer, though I've done some fairly noticeable modifications to the WP themes I use.

Any web host with MySQL and PHP should be able to support WordPress; some of them will even offer installs through a user panel.

WordPress seems to run the best. Every time I visit a Blogger blog, it takes forever to load.

Wordpress is the best platform to use for blogging...It provides wonderful plugins and themes and it is easy to use without breaking your head in learning the technical programming...

If you are planning to buy a book on blogging, it is good to join the blog mentorship program by John Yeo..He is the popular blogger who has tasted success in blogging and now he is teaching others to replicate his success with blogging

wordpress has tons of support forums and software and widgets and all sorts of cool tools for beginners and experts. I would definitely use, wordpress if you're planning on hosting your own blog. If not, then I would use blogger, they give you tons of more freedom on their url.
