Question:
Is there a way to block a person from using a internet card to access to your computer connection?

I ask because it has come to my attention that someone in my apartment complex has been trying to access my cable connection (I had a warning prompt telling me that another computer with all its stat info was attempting to gain access and asked if I would allow that) This infuriates me because if I have to pay $45 a month for comcast I want to be the only using it, plus what if the person is a serial killer, terrorist or porn freak, I don't want anything being link to my computer or my internet service that did not originate with me. Please tell me the best way to block it. Thanks!

If your modem/router came from Comcast, give them a call and explain what happened. They will be able to walk you through setting up security parameters so that no one can "piggy back" on your signal. If it is NOT a wireless connection you really need to contact Comcast, that means someone has spliced into your actual cable connection. If it is wireless even people with the new Wii games and other bluetooth products can try to "piggyback" your signal to get free access.

Call Comcast and have them walk you through how to set it up so no one but yourself can access it.

Good Luck

Don't be so sure this is someone else in the building. This firewall allert could just as easily have been from someone on the internet tryingto hack thru the weak firewall of your router.

If your going wireless, the best security is to turn it off and hardwire your PC to the Comcast router.

Otherwise, change your wireless encryption passwords often and turn off the access point when not in use.

In all, I would worry more about your machine being hacked and less about it being a serial killer or weirdo.

Ask the cable company to change your ip address. Get a firewall like ZONEALARM. Make sure to get some type of encryption if you use a wireless connection. It is in the router setting. Ask the cable company to walk you throught it. They will do it for free. GOOD LUCK.

yes set up the wep encryption key that only you have the code to. you may find that the warning is just where someones pc is roaming for a connection and just stumbles onto yours. but as long as you use the wep key you should be pretty safe. if you are really bothered then don't use wireless and get a wired connection.

If you have a wifi router, you must go into the configuration and securely lock it. This is what I had to do with my router as someone was illegally using my BB connection.
