Question:
Why is my Internet crashing so much?

Could it be related to the browser or would it be the Internet connection itself?

I currently use Firefox (own a PC with Windows 7). It seems as though recently the Internet just crashes. I may only have 3 tabs open, but it'll crash spontaneously.

Any suggestions or insight?

Could be your browser...

this link talks about firefox crashes http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes

It might be your network connection...you could try and unplug your router and then plugging it back it and see if that changes anything....

@Cassidy: Internet Explorer works pretty well.

Tiger, Your question asks what would happen if the Internet crashed? Should Brits, feel proud about the BBC crashing the Internet? Will service providers use it as an opportunity to raise rates? Then you question if its possible. I don't know if its possible. However, I use the Internet for banking and communicating with friends and family far away. You mention that people might not go to work. Why bother? I would not be able to get my job done without access to the Internet. Should Brits be proud? I don't think this service will have anything to do with it. Someone stated that it could not happen. I wonder if all those terrorist cells we get to hear about in the States could be working on something like this. Much more dismaying than 9/11 in my opinion. Air travel would be halted. Businesses like Wal-Mart that keep track of inventory in their stores and would be at a loss to know what to order if they could because their suppliers would have the same problems. (I am a bit over my head here. I am assuming that Intranet related data would be affected by this too. I assume I would not be able to access Internet Explorer and therefore not be able to access the information I require.) Finally, service providers have so many opportunities to increase access rates (we must increase bandwidth, that costs money or we must make it faster and that costs money, etc) what is one more? By the way I did not find any stories about the iPlayer taking down the net just some stories of people having service problems. Is this where the rumor started?

internet can be a real pain in the **** sometimes. many times when i use my internet ill have a few tabs open and when i click on a different tab the internet becomes unresponsive for about 5 mins then returns to normal this happens alot and im not sure why. in my experience it could be related to the connection to the internet, especially if you use a laptop and wireless like me, being further from the router slows it down. but then it could be that your computer is running slow due to lack of memory on hard drive or other programs running in the background slow down the browser.

Answers that have been given are all possible. Try their suggestions especially the deleting and running a full virus check. I know I sometimes have problems with the phone line that plugs into my router - in fact I have taped it to try to avoid that problem. I, like you, seem to always want to open up tabs. Sometimes if having problems that way I will open a new window instead. Most of the time I have problems that you experience it comes because I am trying to have more than one tab downloading at the same time. Try being more patient and leave one finish before starting another and you will experience less chance of your problem happening.

Insight... it's the one thing I have grown to really dislike about Firefox. It crashes... sometimes, quite often. I haven't had that problem for a while, but expect it will happen again. It's definitely an issue many people I know have had with Firefox, me included.

The Internet can't "crash" because it's not in one specific area. The Internet is the worlds large networking of computers, it consists of smaller networks and servers all over the world.

you highly could have a virus ..

- you can get them if you go on websites that aren't good or download porn..

or your computer has too much stuff.

try deleting some useless pictures & downloads you never use. such as ( yahoo messanger ..? aim ? aol ? )

i highly doubt it's because of your internet. ( FireFox is way better then Internet Explorer try not using Internet Explorer it leads too Virus' )

Or it could be your router .. maybe you should get a new one ? or call your internet company.
