Hi Kevin. I am so glad you asked this. I can give advise from first hand experience. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH CLEAR. Why? Well you did ask.

I came into a situation where I could get Clear internet service.. Cheap, unlimited, well known. Sweet I'm in. 2 weeks into this deal I realized my most grievous error. I did not go online and read their entire Eula. There is such a thing with Clear called atypical usage. What is that?Well they throw a bunch of bandwidth into a trough based on what that area consumes. Each person can take as much as they want BUT they can't take more than their neighbors. So everyone shares alike and we are one big happy community. One problem. How do i know what the other users in my area are using. OK Clear where can I go to see some guidelines so I know when I am turning from a typical user to an atypical user. I'm sorry sir but that number varies month to munth and day to day as user's internet habits change. How do I know how much i've used. Well sir in the past 2 weeks you have consumed 64.something GB. That is well beyond a typical user. This is a mobile service sir. This is not to be used as a constantly on connections. Our users "jump on" and surf the web for a while, check emails, watch a youtube clip or download small apps. That isn't exactly what she said but she mentioned mamsy pamsy internet usage habits. Basically go back to 1995 and connect with a 56k modem that will seriously restrict your motivation to use large files. The problem is they are expecting 2 decades ago usage but are offering today's speeds. The start up fee/activation is $35. So if you want service like clear drive past your local WI-Fi hotspot and use that. If you want real unlimited service go with a cable/fiber service if at all possible. I would really suggest you stay as far from them as possible. The companies that plaster unlimited and then put unlimited in a box? BTW That was a warning. They turned by service back on. a week later my service was dead. I was told my usage had reduced to 13GB and that was still excessive and so bye Clear. I want to make sure no one that I know is contemplating going with Clear to have to go through the deplorable service I had to. I am now with a local cable based provider and love them Suddenlink. No contract. ABSOLUTELY NO LIMITATIONS as far as internet USAGE goes. I have their 20mbps plan and consistently return 40+ on speedtest.net. Why pay for mobile service when there are hotspots? If you want true internet service then you need a cable based provider. Oh wone other thing. You ever hear about Ping? That kinda sorda maybe how fast it takes your signal to get from you to your server and I think back. My ping right now is between 10 and 16. Usually bounces back and forth from 10-12. My signal goes fromme to a junction box or 2 a hub and wherever it goes but it makes the trip quite fast. YOur Clear signal. From you to a tower and probably another 1 or 2 and then most likely to a Satellite and to another 1 or 2 to gain line of site with your main server. When i was with them Direct2Drive told me I was in ontario canada. I am in Texas. How my signal is being shown there I do not know. If you were to ping my server I would now be in the city I live. It shows your server's home and not your address. So when i was with Clear my signal had to make a 4000+ mile round trip. Why does this matter. With larger files you can fully expect corruption due to the degradation of your wireless signal. When i was with them and purchased games ( over 5 gigs ) from Direct to drive I was getting very very mad at direct to drive( to put it nicely ) because I was under the impression they were and money grubbing company that provided unpatched and horrible games. Turns out when I went over to Suddenlink I then received perfect games. As one technician noticed when I sent him a sreenshot of a folder I was missing files. So the file was starting out just fine but by the time it reached my door it had lost so many packets my computer didn't know what to do with it. My ping with Clear was always over 200. This means horrible online gaming and response times as well as just poor service. If you are just a VERY light user then why not. If you watch more than 5 mmovies a month I would stay away from them. I am not gonna count minutes, GB or calories.

Yes it does makes a difference. *Performance comparison claim based on average download speeds obtained during tests conducted by CLEAR on the CLEAR network, vs. other national wireless carriers’ recently published, download speed claims. Actual CLEAR network performance may vary and is not guaranteed.
