Question:
Why isn't my AOL email sending in Vista Windows Mail?
2010-02-21 02:16:37 UTC
It was working fine until 3 days ago, but now I can receive mail but not send it. This is the error message that comes up:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read
the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help
determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail
service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'xxx@aol.com'.
Subject 'Change of email address', Account: 'Suzy',
Server: 'smtp.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '553 5.7.1 : Sender address
rejected: not owned by user xxx@aol.com', Port: 587,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

My settings are pop.aol.com, smtp.aol.com, server requires authentication box ticked, outgoing port 587.

I also have a yahoo account set up in Windows mail which is working fine, both receiving & sending.

Please help!

ive had the same problem for 3 days, but i have discovered finally the problem, i hope this works for you guys too.

somewhere within the past few days AOL or your ISP have made changes to the Outgoing server within your application.

either way what made it work for me was to change your Outgoing mail server to your isp email provided by them, for instance mail.btinternet.com and not smtp.aol.com. then try port 25 or whatever your isp recommends(in which case you should speak to them)

- password and user name are the ones provided by your isp, to be entered in the below boxes aswell.

incoming email is to be set to imap.aol.com.

you maybe thinking how can you recieve through aol and send by your isp. i dont know but it works and sends and recieves with all the correct user names.

goodluck

I'm having the exact same problem and message from window mail and aol. Mine started about the exact same time. I've had problems between windows mail and aol before but usually they went away within a few hours and no changes to my computer so I expected a problem from aol's end. Hope somebody out there answers us.

at first, you cant use domicile windows mail or outlook till you have a paid AOL account. in case you do use (coniving, costly, and wothless) AOL, look for suggestion from their help to discover your pop3 and smtp archives. Open your domicile windows mail and make useful those are set stunning. domicile based e mail customer is a lot from secure at first and that i dont comprehend why you could desire to apply it contained in the 1st place. You cant even verify your mail till its downloaded and then any malware has already contaminated you!
