Question:
Can I relist an item on Ebay if I think it is a scam?

I tried to sell my first item on Ebay. I spent hours before hand reading all of their articles and guidelines and seems every time I read 1 guideline 2 more popped up. Anyways, it was a console and someone used the Buy it Now feature so Ebay took it off of Auction. Well, I got a text message from someone claiming to have bought just a few hours after I posted it so I replied back, how else would someone else get my contact information as well as theirs?

However, they only requested me to link my Paypal account to Ebay and I checked and sure enough it wasn't Linked. The later they asked for my PayPaL email which I gave them because who doesn;t have it?

Anyways, in a invoice from Ebay they wanted me to ship it to their location but to a PO box. I replied back ok and gave them my PayPal email which they also requested in the invoice from Ebay.

However, they also requested it through text as well so I gave it to them. A few minutes later I get several scam emails including one from PayPaL telling me they are holding my funds until the item has shipped even though my PayPaL and Ebay still say the item hasn't been paid for. Then I get a email from the exact email address listed on Ebay for the Buyer saying they want the item shipped to Nigeria and that they included a extra $100 and have paid (even though Ebay says otherwise and I refused to ship to anywhere outside the U.S.)

Overall, I think this is a scam and I probably shouldn't have replied back to the text message, then again they already had access to my email.

So I am wondering, since I have a bad feeling about this, can I just relist the item or is that breaking a guideline on one of their hundreds of guideline pages?

I can get your contact information (email or contact through ebay) just by going to the ebay sight map and searching for it. How they texted you (on your cell phone?) is beyond me and highly suspicious. I never respond to any emails except those sent by ebay where it says a member has a question about item # bla-bla. Once the Nigerian Mafia get your email address, you are open to scamming big time. May want to change your user ID. Next time be super aware of who you are talking to. When you sell something, look up the buyer for country of origin, if nothing else, and feedback rating. I don't sell to anyone with negative feedback or positive less than 10.

First, you should report the buyer to eBay. You can't relist the item until the dispute is resolved one way or another, plus you'll probably get your final value fee and any listing fees back. Since it's a non-paying buyer, that's the type of complaint your should submit, and include all the information about the scam emails you've received.

See this section of the eBay policies for more information:

In the mean time, you should NEVER give any additional payment or contact information to a buyer. Ebay provides them with everything they need to pay you, and they have no reason to request anything from you. I would strongly recommend changing your PayPal address and password just to be safe, along with your eBay password.

You can't just relist an item. You have to report a fraudulent buyer to Ebay and they have to close the listing before you can relist it

As a new seller do not offer Buy it Now - 95% of scam attempts will be through Buy it Now as their accounts are rarely open long enough to complete the bidding process

You also NEVER give your Paypal details to anyone on Ebay. They don't need it - they have to pay on Ebay's checkout page

I would change your Paypal email address as these scammers use password hacking software to try and hack your account

As a new seller, do not ship overseas as 99% of scam attempts will be from overseas and make sure your settings show that you do not ship overseas. Also state very clearly in your ad that you do not ship overseas and you ONLY ship to Paypal verified addresses

Report the buyer to Ebay ASAP to get their account removed
