Why is my internet so slow? 8meg dsl BT?

My internet for the past few days has been painfully slow. I have since done a registry clean up with errordoctor, a driver update with windows update, googling for them and using driver detective, so all are well up to date. I am using net limiter 2 which shows my download amounts and speeds and that said im downloading at 24kb average. www.testmy.net has put it at only 9.89% of my capable download speed. please dont tell me that thats the ten percent of my connection that i should be getting, so that right, its not. thats nearly 10% of my capable download speed which is 800kb per second, and i used to hit 600-700kb per sec all the time. I dont know what else to do. just looking for some help of here and if i cant get any then i guess im queing on the bt phone line for an hour for a tech. Thanks to all those that reply anyway.

DSL = Before going thru a lot of exercises, Call your ISP and ask them if they are having any problems, to first eliminate that possibility. You could throw in a request for a new modum. Just make sure it isn't your router that's causing the problem.



Call your phone company and insist that when you are talking on the phone you frequently hear a lot of loud static/crackling, and that you want your outside and inside lines replaced.(Don't mention anything about the internet)





Try start/connect to/show all connections/right click on the connection that you are using/repair, and check for spyware/malware(See the sticky threads at the top of this page).





Flush your dns .=. start/run/ cmd/ ipconfig /flushdns/ok(enter)

Are you using a software firewall and/or router?





Unplug modem/router and turn off computer, then plug everything back in. Also check to make sure your network card is correctly installed.= Windows XP = r/click "my computer"/click the "hardware" tab/click "device manager"/

expand "network adapters" and see if there is anything listed, and if it is listed, see if it has an "X" or exclamation mark?





Clear/clean your cache and go to your local settings folder and empty your "temp" folder.

Have you run a spyware and/or antivirus on your computer lately? If not that could be causeing your slow down. Also if there are a lot of people on the server your downloading from you will see a reduction in download speed. I would advise runing the web scan at the following address.

Firstly i suggest that u contact the isp.If they don't help try reinstalling modem.And if the problem persists,go to control panel>modems and phones and properties and get ur speed to maximum one.If doesn't work,the problem is with ur bandwidth control in ur registry editor or antivirus settings.Thats all i know.Thanx
