Question:
Ebay item lost in post, what do I have to do?

An item I sold on ebay has not arrived to the seller, so I'm guessing it must have been lost in the post.
I still have the proof of postage and in my description I said I did not take responsibility for items lost in the post.
What action do I have to take now to ensure that my seller gets a fair result but also that I do not make a loss.
If it helps the postage method I used was just second class standard.
Thanks.

It doesn't matter what your auction reads regarding not taking responsibility for items lost in post.

As an eBay seller you are responsible.

You will need to refund the buyer the full amount including original shipping.

If you don't do it voluntarily --- the buyer can file a claim and indeed receive a refund. It's not good for your account for claims to be filed.

You will have to file for compensation and return the money

Does the Second Class service entitle me to compensation for lost, damaged or delayed items?

For items posted with Royal Mail which have no intrinsic value, or where a customer cannot provide evidence of posting, there will be compensation for loss, damage and delay of a minimum of 6 x 1st class stamps at the first weight step. In the event of a compensation claim for loss we will refund the postage paid or 6 x 1st class stamps at the first weight step, whichever is greater.

For lost or damaged items that have an intrinsic value, with evidence of posting with Royal Mail (such as a certificate of posting) and evidence of value (such as an invoice or receipt) customers will be entitled to a postage refund plus compensation for actual loss up to the value of the item, or 100 x 1st class stamps at the first weight step, whichever is the lowest;

Compensation up to £2,500 is also available if you use the Special Delivery™ Next Day service.

How long has it been in shipping? Second class is pretty slow. I know it's too late now but I learned the hard way on shipping. I only ship priority mail with tracking and always insist on insurance on every item. Contact ebay and see what they say. If you are from the US the post office won't pay for any uninsured parcel lost in shipping.
