Question:
Why does my Internet Connection always go down?

Basically, Im connected through a BT Voyager router that is wired to the Phone line with an Ethernet cable. (Our service provider is BT.)
My problem is that my internet connection keeps going down or timing out or somesuch.
This happens annoyingly regularly. It is especially annoying if I am on Xbox Live and I just get kicked out of a game and the whole console freezes up because of the lost connection.
The same is true of MSN. I shall just be chatting on MSN and I shall randomally be signed out.
When on my laptop it loses connection to the internet but not to my local network, showing that it is not a fault with the router.
What I would like to know is that is there a way of decreasing the frequency of these timeouts or generally speeding up my connection?

To get the internet back on after a 'time out' I have to switch my router off and then on again, this usually causes the green 'internet' light to come back on.

This is exceedingly annoying as it means I can only have one or two games on my Xbox before I have to reset my router and restart my console.

Any help appreciated.

I had basically the same issue. I kept losing connection to the internet, and to get it back on I would have to restart the router (very annoying). It would happen seemingly at random - despite the fact that we had a functioning router and all the other equipment seemed to be in order.

In the end, as the previous poster suggested, the issue was in the actual cable in our house. I really suggest you get it checked out.

You will most likely have to have the phone line checked. The signal may not be strong and may be causing your modem/router to loose its connection. Also make sure you don't have a dsl filter on the modem line.
