Question:
Permalink setting produced "redirect" problem?

My blog is at http://capuderfantasia.com/blog/
I have a problem with the permalink settings (in Settings, Permalink, in the WordPress dashboard).

If I select the this option for permalinks: "Default [blogurl]/p=123", then everything works fine.
But if I select the permalink option for "month and name", which has the format "[blog url]/2011/02/sample-post", and then I click on a hyperlink to a particular article on my blog" then I get a "redirect" error, and the blog article never appears. In Firefox 3.6.13 I get a message "The page isn't redirecting properly", and in Chrome I get "This webpage has a redirect loop." Similar, if I click on a Category, like "Age discrimination", I get the right result if the permalinks setting is to "Default", but I get the error messages describe above if Permalinks is set to "month and name".

I want permalinks set to "month and name", in part because I have blog article I wrote where the "month and name" option was functional and I have hyperlinks in my blog articles that are looking for the URL for articles based on the "month and name" setting. But I always get the error result described above when I change Permalinks from "default" to "month and name". The "month and name" setting worked properly until November 2010, when I updated a plugin and my blog disappeared. Yahoo Business (my host) helped me get my main blog page up and running, but all hyperlinks to my articles were giving this "redirect" error message. I could not solve the problem, and I eventually installed Bitnami and Wordpress on my local computer, imported into the local installation all my articles from my Yahoo business hosted blog, deleted my blog on my Yahoo business site, deleted the mySQl database for my blog on Yahoo Business, then installed Wordpress again on Yahoo Business and set up the new MySQL database, and imported my old blog article from my local Bitnami-Wordpress installation into the Yahoo Business WordPress blog. After that process, everything worked fine except for the hyperlink issue I describe above.

Any suggestions? Thanks very much.

You need the wordpress plugin called "Redirection".

I don't recommend setting your permalinks by the month and name. You should set them by the name so the blog is timeless.

/%postname%/

Or you could make the permalinks by category and then post name.

/%category%/%postname%/

The custom permalinks add-on that exists as a workaround for .htaccess inaccessibility is only enabled when you use our Wordpress installer, built into the Web Hosting Control Panel. Chances are that with the Wordpress migrations and reactivations you've done, that add-on is no longer enabled or working properly. Try installing Wordpress fresh to a new folder and test the add-on. If it works, migrating your existing blog to the new install might fix it. Our official support for Wordpress drops off after installation, so if you have problems from there we recommend checking out Wordpress' help pages at http://codex.wordpress.org
