By and large I'm alright with it. One older Java site I use a lot doesn't work right, and FF4 uses about twice as much RAM as FF 3.6, which is an issue on my little netbook. It is faster if your computer has the horsepower, but if not it certainly could slow it down. Some add-ons have not caught up yet, but that happens with every new version.

To your question: be sure to subscribe and activate Firefox Sync in the "Preferences" menu. Then, if you downgrade to FF3.6 you can install the separate Mozilla "Sync" extension for that version and your complete setup of bookmarks will be saved.

There is also a very good FF3.6 extension called Siphon that syncs extensions, but it is not updated to work with FF4.

Firefox 4.0 is not very good right now (I think it's beta anyway which means it is still being developed). I upgraded to it and had to go back to Firefox 3.5 and when I did i did lose all of my bookmarks which is something that isn't a big deal because all you have to do is bookmark them again, and I wouldn't worry about the add-on's because they are on your computer not your browser, the browser only recognizes what add-on's you have installed. Go back to at least 3.5 and press ahead.

The X for closing tabs is there.

your bookmarks should be backed up, take a look in

C: / users / your account name / appdata / roaming / mozilla / firefox / profiles / default / bookmarkbackups

and you should find a list of recent back ups.

just import the latest one to firefox 3.

As it happens i find firefox uses too much ram and therefore use google chrome

Personally I hate the new FF 4.0 and went straight back to 3.6.

I did not like the huge changes to the interface, but figured I would get used to them. Then I found Roboform 6 wouldn’t work and I would have to upgrade to and pay for Roboform 7. I have a ‘lifetime’ licence for Roboform 6 and do not want to upgrade to 7.

Then I find Yahoo! Mail is upgrading, and apparently the old mail will eventually become obsolete. And again, the new Yahoo! Mail will not work in FF 3.6.

So I am going to try the Chrome Browser and transfer all my Yahoo! Mail to a new email I have set up with my ISP (which they tell me will stay with me forever, even if I change ISP).

As to why companies do not support old software forever, it is simply a matter of cost. They would need to employ a team to keep the upgrades ongoing, alongside the latest version.

What I don’t get is why the new browse could not support both versions of Roboform? Hands up! Conspiracy theorist alert! Could these software companies be doing backroom deals to force upgrades? Certainly, on principal I will not upgrade Roboform now. I shall be looking at some of the free password/login options available. Shame because I like Roboform, which is why I bought the licence!

Some advice here-

I did this, successfully- (thanks to http://www.satellitesupreme.com/showthread.php?11176-Downgrading-To-Firefox-3.6.16-From-Firefox-4.0)

Download and save FF 3.6 from-

Before installing find your user profile and do a few things.

• Go to Start in bottom left corner of your display.

• Enter %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ into the "Start Search" box.

• Without selecting enter button, look at the list of profiles on top of start menu.

Click on the profile with "default" in the name. This will open in a new window.

in this new window delete the following files...

1) extensions.rdf

2) extensions.cache

3) extensions.sqlite

4) extensions.ini

5) localstore.rdf

Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility and reset the customized toolbar.

- exit out.

In control panel, proceed to uninstall Firefox 4.0 from your PC in the normal fashion.

During the uninstall you will be prompted to "Remove my Firefox personal data".

This box is normally unchecked, be sure that it is unchecked before continuing with the uninstall.

While other methods should work, this is the most likely to succeed and keep all your add-ons and personal settings.

Install FF 3.6 from.
