Everytime I try to download aim or firefox. It just keeps telling me I dont have permission after i try and sabe it. But when I press run instead of save, nothing happens. I tried everything possible, from turning off my pop-up blockers, reseting my internet settings and restarting the laptop numerous times. Please does any body know what i can do to solve this annoying problem? I'll very much greatly appreciate it.

You probably don't have admin privileges. In vista right click on the file and click on run as administrator(run as admin) you might need a password. On XP right click and click on Run As... then click the run as following user radio button(the circle thing) and click on the drop down box and look for a user called admin or administrator. You will need the password. The three most common passwords for the administrator on an XP machine are admin, administrator, or there isn't a password. I don't know on vista though since I don't use it. And if worse comes to worse download a copy of firefox portable and try that. You can use a web based aim client like at http://www.meebo.com. Firefox portable can be downloaded here http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable.

you are looking into 3 possible scenarios:

1. you may have to reconfigure your firewall or download resrictions - check your control panel, firewall and see the settings.

2. if you dont have a fast dsl connection, the dowbload may have timed-out, try hitting refresh several times and see what happens.

3. you may have a highjacker, spyware, trojan or any malicious program preventing you from downloading any file from particular sites chosen by the hacker. turn off your restore system then try running your anti spyware and antivirus programs. Be sure to enable your restore system after checking for invasive infections. Failing to turn off your restore system before running the antivirus and anti spyware programs means you are restoring even the viruses and spywares.
