Limewire won't open!? HELPPPP!?

Question

Okay, LimeWire WONT open. I have 5.5.16 version of Limewire. Today I tried to open it, it said that it needs an update. So, I was like okay. I clicked on 'yes'. 5 minutes passed. Nothing happened. I tried to open it again it said it needed an update, ONCE again i clicked 'yes'. 5 minutes passed nothing happened. Could someone PLEASE HELP ME!? oh, & also I have AVG anti-virus free edition 2011. Could AVG be blocking it? If it is, how could I stop it from blocking it?

Limewire was shut down yesterday after receiving a "cease and desist" order from a Federal Court:

After the ruling, Limewire was required to shut down operations, including all of its servers. The reason your application is having difficulty is because the server it would attempt to connect to to download the program update no longer is operational. I don't know what affect losing Limewire's central servers will have on all the desktop clients, but odds are that your client, and the rest of Limewire, is gone for good.



Long story short... Limewire lost a court case against the RIAA and has been shut down. Odds are good that Limewire is history.

I had the exact same problem last night. I hate to say it, but Limewire got shut down by order of Federal Court. It probably won't be coming back either, so you'll have to find another source for your music. You can you Frostwire or eTomi. There are a bunch of other things too...if you type in Limewire in the Search Y! Answers search engine, you'll see you aren't the only one freaking out about this.

Go into the AVG program and see if it detected Limewire as a threat by seeing what it put into quarantine, otherwise just uninstall it and go to the website limewire.com and reinstall it.
