Question:
Slow web browser? Already tried basic troubleshooting--- e.g. clear internet history, cache, & cookies, defrag?

I'm at my wit's end with my internet! I apologize in advance, this may turn into an essay--- but I'd like to detail the steps I've already taken in order to eliminate the easy answers.

I have a brand new Sony Vaio S series--- initially, my internet worked fine. After a month, it got monstrously slow (like 5 minutes to load a simple page slow). I had the same issues with both Google Chrome and Windows Explorer. After massive troubleshooting, I canned it, wiped my computer to its original state, and then enjoyed fast internet for a month.

Now the slow slow internet issue is back! Throughout this whole time period, my router, service provider, and modem have stayed the same. My roommate's computer has had consistent internet with no problems.

Troubleshooting steps I tried:

-Network diagnostic via the control panel and Sony's built-in VaioCare tool (Neither finds a problem)
-Deleting internet history
-Deleting temporary files
-Clearing the Cache
-Defragging the computer
-Running a complete Windows Security Essentials Scan for Viruses
-Skimmed through the active processes in task manager for unusual programs running and shut down the unnecessary ones
-I have my browser settings automatically delete all cookies and plug-in data each time I close the window
-I have no extensions installed
-All windows updates are installed
-Just for good measure, I also ran VaioCare's Disk Cleaner, Registry Cleaner, and Registry Defrag (I'm honestly even sure what those are, but it couldn't have hurt)

If you know of anything else that I could try, please let me know! I really don't want to go through the complete recovery process again to wipe out whatever is going on.

mine is doing the same thing, and its a recent thing....i suspect google is trying out its new privacy policy, and tracking every move i make online...add that to yahoo's policy of tracking every move i make when logged in, and i'm surprised they're both not picking sites for me.

the speed which pages load now, along with the furious net activity my router displays, makes it seem like someone else is browsing my pages before i get to see them.

The cookies and caching history hold saved information from all of the websites you visit on your computer (things like pictures, templates, videos, sounds, ect) so that they can be accessed again the next time you visit that same site. Overall having these save actually saves browsing time. What happens, though, is that when there are just too many of these files saved, it can actually slow down how fast web pages load. How/why, you may ask... Think of the folder like a closet. When you don't have a lot of clothes in the closet, its easy to see where everything is and pick out the outfit you wanted for the day. When you keep adding more and more clothing to the closet without throwing anything away, all of a sudden you have to look through a whole row of shirts until you found the one you wanted. That is what happens with these files. By deleting them, you are starting fresh and removing all of the clutter (especially outdated website files and ones from sites you rarely visit). Realistically though, between broadband internet connections, large hard drives, faster processors, smarter browsers, and more standard memory the actual speed difference from deleting the files is barely noticeable (unless you have over a gig of them) when compared with the improvements you would see back in 2000 from deleting those files.

Run a internet speed test. Also make sure no unknown person is logged into you network. Sometimes people will steal you internet and download illegal torrent which slow down you internet.
