A .hqx is a Macintosh file encoded in binary format, which combines the resource fork and data fork into one binary file. This prevents it from being corrupted when transferred over the Internet or network connection. It needs to be decoded before it can be viewed.

Stuffit Expander is by far the best program to use for both Mac and Windows.

xtension: HQX ( . HQX )

Description:

HQX is the file extension for the BinHex associated with Macintosh 4.0.

Short for Program InFormation file, a type of file that holds information about how Windows should run a non-Windows application. For example, a PIF file can contain instructions for executing a DOS application in the Windows environment. These instructions can include the amount of memory to use, the path to the executable file, and what type of window to use. PIF files have a .pif extension .

You'll have to become a mac user to open it, they're unreadable on a windows platform. Stuffit opens them.

Pay attention when installing because Stuffit likes to take over all compression formats in your system.
