when you send an email using outlook, eudora, outlook, firefox etc. there is a read receipt option that you can enable to ask for a notification.

people can still bypass that by saying no when they are prompted to reply to your read receipt though.

you can also send a delivery receipt that at least tells you the email was successfully delivered - but there is no absolute way to know if it has been read.

Most eMail clients have a "return receipt" or acknowledgment that can be toggle onto an eMail.

While this does not insure that you will get a receipt, most will click the "send receipt" when reading or closing their eMail.

If you are using Yahoo's free email, that is not a service offered. I believe you have to have the Mail Plus, a paid email service to get that. Outlook and Outlook Express offer this, but Yahoo doesn't.
