How can i stop this happening?

if AVG is making problems uninstall it and get Windows Live Onecare, it's easy simple and secure and it's made from microsoft, and get the trial version it's 120days which is 4months! It's the best anti-virus i used, i think it's much much better than AVG and you will like it!

Your problem is the AVG Link scanner addon.

many people have reported the same problem with avg.

The best thing to do is:

Run the installation with the following command line to remove the link scanner from your installation:

c:\avg_free_stf_*.exe /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSurf /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSearch

OR you can permanently disable the avg link scanner addonson your browsers. But the first option would be better.

I got this info from here:

DON'T GET RID OF AVG IF ITS WORKING CORRECTLY just disable the extensions and i would recommend you get malwarebytes its awesome oh and a registry cleaner could help to just make sure its a good one and doesn't give you more viruses

Get rid of AVG and both IE and FF will work which is what you want.

Personally I do not have an anti-virus software on my computer and it is really fast and I don't get infected.
