wireless routers will not speed up your internet connection. they just serve the purpose of allowing your computer/laptop to be connected to the internet without actually being plugged in. if you have a laptop, you would need to make sure that it has a wireless card in it so that it can receive signals from a wireless router.

if you want faster connection, i would recommend getting a cable modem from comcast or something. even dsl will be way faster than dial-up.

A wireless router pretty much allows you to connect to your computer without an internet cable. To speed up your dial up connection you need to make sure that your computer has a decent amount of RAM. Maybe 500 some MB, to make it easier for your computer to run several programs at once. If that's all okay, read the article below. It will tell you about getting a better modem, increase cache storage, and making the web pages you look at almost text only. There really is only so much that you can do with dial up connections though.

A router has nothing to do with speeding up your service. Basicly it is used for hooking one or more computers to your providers net server having only to use one internet connection and one modem that connects you to your internet providers server. Other wise each computer would have to have its own modem connection and line to the net server. Or if you want it in technical terms A device used to connect networks of different types, such as those with different architectures and protocols!!! MSN has a section you go in and test your speed. Open up msn, if you dont use them just type msn.com in the adress bar. Up toward the top hand right corner you will see tech and gadgets open that up. Next in the middle of the page you will see internet speed test open that and just do what it says!!! Make sure you dont have anything running in the backround like a firewall, or open programs or your downloading something or it will make the test go slower. You should get a speed around 49-51k (thousand) even tho the modem says 56k under the law dial up providers arent suppose go over 51k because then it starts messing with the phone line. Notice how I said arent suppose to!! If you are up around the above speeds there isnt anything you can do to make it go faster other than getting a DSL or Cable internet provider. If it is considerbaly slower than above speeds you can try useing a tweaking program. The problems with these tho are unless you find a good one they can mess up your computer BIG TIME ,or make it so it wont connect at all. Try going into PC Magizine web site I think you can type pcmagizine.com in the addess bar if not just do a web search for them. They rate alot of software programs with a 5 thumb the best 1 thumb the worst. You want to try and find a internet tweaking program,or something that says tweak my modem. Find one with the highest ratings and read what the customer rating are. Make sure you find a program that says it will tweak a dialup connection!! These programs will actually tweak the modem. You do not want one that says it is a dialup accelerator for the reason that is given by Sara B above!!!

PS ram memory has absolulty nothing to do with your internet speed!!

GOOD LUCK

Get DSL or cable. There is NO way to make dialup faster. Wireless routers are not for speed, but for freedom to move around with a notebook. Even the "dialup accelerater" programs really don't make it faster. They just save images from frequently browsed pages (called cash browsing) so they load faster. The only true way to seepd up your internet browsing is to upgrade to a different service.

NO, a router is designed to share a high speed connection like DSL or cable.

Unless you're willing to get a high speed connection, a router will do no good.

If you have dialup, you're stuck with the slow speed.

And the software that claims to speed up dialup connections is bogus. They'll take your money and slow down your already slow connection.

you should switch to DSL , a wireless router allows you to have the internet on additional computers , it sends a signal to the other ones you have connected.
