Firefox doesn't work but Internet Explorer does...?

I have had Firefox installed on my computer for at least a year now, but it suddenly doesn't work. It gives the "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www...." message. Strangely though, Internet Explorer works fine. I've tried all the help resources on the server and have done two virus scans. I also have cleared my cache, cookies, etc. But, it still doesn't work. Any Firefox experts out there?

Thanks

If you have Win XP or Vista

the best browser is IE8. I've found only one fixable problem with installation Adobe Flash Player plugin if you have too many add-ons. See: How to download any Add-ons to IE8 without the errors http://yefimsanswers.blogspot.com/2009/02/how-to-download-any-add-ons-to-ie8.html http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2008/03/20/add-on-management-improvements-in-internet-explorer-8.aspx

Did you set up a proxy in IE recently? Because if you use proxy in IE then you have to change it in Firefox as well.

In firefox, click 'Tools'/'Options'

Under the 'Advanced' tab, click 'Network', in 'Connections' hit 'Settings'

Then click on the radio button that says

'Auto-detect proxy settings for this network'. Hit Okay and try again

Have you tried different websites? There could be one site that just doesn't work. I've had a similar problem on Linux (Ubuntu) and I've decided it's related to my wireless USB stick.

Do you need to configure a proxy server or anything under network options?

Do you have Norton Antivirus or something else from Norton? Disable or uninstall it, restart the computer, then check to see if Firefox works again.

maybe your Anti Virus software block Firefox somehow?

Tried reinstalling?

There is a new version out there, have you downloaded it yet? It's Firefox 3.0.8. I'd uninstall your old one and start fresh.
