ftp directory and wordpress not talking?

My ftp client and my Wordpress theme don't seem to be talking to each other, e.g. I've made changes to my custom.css and ftp them up and they have no effect, check the custom css file within Wordpress and they haven't appeared.

I can change the files within Wordpress and it works ok but doesn't pass down to my directory.

I've downloaded two plugins and they've been safely activated but neither do they appear on my ftp directory.

Any ideas

Do you have a cache enabled? If so, clear that and also clear your browser cache.

I recommend using a ftp shopper like Filezilla, or an simple one, finished commander, that helps you to apply ftp connections. once you're using nicely-known ftp app from abode windows the command to create a clean sub-itemizing on your present day dir: mkdir new_folder changing atributes, to make it readable(if mandatory) chmod 755 new_folder

Are you looking in the right directory? Plugins are generally in /wp-content/nameofplugin; themes are in /wp-content/nameoftheme. And most themes expect a css file called style.css.
