Question:
When setting up an autoresponder from my old email address, should I include my new email address?

Due to overwhelming spam in my email account, I am setting up a new email address.

I'd like to set up an autoresponder message on my old address saying something like 'Hello, this address no longer works, please resend to [new email address]'.

My question is: should I actually include my new email - which takes the form of firstname.lastname@mydomain.com - address in this autoresponse, or will spammers detect that new address and add it to their mailing lists? Would I need to say that my new address is 'firstname dot lastname at mydomain dot com' or something similar? I'd rather be able to include the real address if possible.

These email accounts are running off my own server (mydomain.com), and mydomain.com is a fairly popular website, which I guess is a reason it attracts a lot of spam.

Set up a webmail type account, such as a Hotmail or Googlemail account. In your auto-responder message, ask people to write to this in order to get your new e-mail address. Apologise for the inconvenience, but tell them that you're doing it this way as an anti-spam precaution, and that you'll send them the new e-mail address once you receive a note to the Hotmail address. The advantage of Googlemail is that you can have messages to it 'autoforwarded' to your real account, then disable it once you've got your new e-mail address distributed to everyone who needs to know it.

This lets you check that anyone who writes to the Hotmail/ Googlemail address is someone you recognise. You can then reply individually to those with your new official e-mail address.

Not a good idea, as spammers will then know your new address. It is not even a good idea to make an new address with the same company. Try google mail, I use it, it ia great.

No. If you are getting junk e-mails on your old e-mail and you auto respond you will get 3 times as much now because you will be added to all junk mail address list.

Surely The Lord God would do nothing but He revealeth His secrets to His servants the prophets. He wouldn't have an email, search His word instead of daydreaming.
