When I use the drop down menu from the address bar to selet websites (yahoo, google, - websites I've been using for ages) IE tells me ;
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings etc. etc.
This also happens when I type them in or select them from favorites or history panel.
Now this only happens on some websites, while others work fine. This problem goes away for a few hours (letting me see the sites) then comes back again.
If I use a search toobar on a website I can access (eg. Orange homepage) then I can search for yahoo and access it that way.
This started a few days ago. I haven't installed or changed anything.
Please help! I've run Nortan Internet virus checker thingy...
Can't guaruntee I can check your answers since it's a miracle I can access this in the first place!
It's driving me crazy!!

Have a nice day by the way, I really hope this help you. The problem you are talking is because the DNS servers are not reached/working properly, or its a glitch if your are using windows. You could try if you are using microsoft windows 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista; if that's the case you must go to WindowsLogoMenu and click on it, click then into the option that says RUN, and then type

ipconfig /flushdns

then run it, press ENTER key, or click RUN/OK button, thats a very common error/glitch with windows systems. If you are not using windows, or that does not work just reboot your PC. If that does not resolve the problem you must call tech suppot of your ISP (Internet Service Provider), but if it does its your computer the problem.

You could be a victim of several different scenarios. My first instinct is your provider is going a bit crazy on you - maybe it's actually them having the difficulty, and not telling anyone (most expect you to phone them).

Second instinct is spyware/malware. Two great programs for eradicating these problems:

Spybot - Search and Destroy: http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html (use the program to get the updates...if you have a connection available)

AdAware: http://www.adaware-antispyware.com/uk_adaware/

Also, you could have faulty cabling, a faulty router or modem (may have only just given up the ghost as the saying goes).

I would check with the ISP first, since the problem is intermittent rather than never or always.

I once had the same kinda thing with IE, couldn't access google.com etc. but some sites worked fine. Then I did this:

IE > Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings -> unticked the boxes

Some websites are like that. As far as I can tell, the reason you can't get in is because the website has too many people on it at the same time. Some websites can handle more people that others. It may also be your servers inability to meet your needs.

This may simply be an intermittent internet connection problem. You may want to try a different browser (Mozilla is great, and free: http://www.mozilla.org ) and see if you have the same issues. if not, this could be your security settings. Click on Tools, Internet Options, Security, and click on "Reset all zones to default level" Then click on Restricted sites and see if those sites are listed under there. If so, you can remove them.

You most likely have a virus or some kind of malware that has hijacked your browser. Try using firefox or something and making sure your anti-virus files are up to date.

Oh, and btw norton is crap. I use a FREE AVG for my antivirus and it works better than norton could even dream of.

Try this. Exit IE. Restart IE, but before doing anything else clear cookies, cache, and history. Now try.

Shut your machine down. Reboot - try again. If you aren't behind a firewall no reason you can get to those sites.
