I am in college, and I have a new Macbook. For my math class we need to go onto a website to do our homework, but the website only operates on Internet Explorer 6.0 or better. How can I get it for my mac since I only have Safari? Please Help!

IE for Mac was discontinued several years ago. The last version for Mac that was released was 5.2.3.

You can still download it from many places, however, such as the following site, which has most of the major versions:

http://mac.oldapps.com/internet_explorer.php

EDIT: Stupid me, I forgot the most important bit of information. If you just need IE6 to get onto a website, you can probably visit the website using Safari if you just switch your reported User Agent to MSIE6. To do this, you must enable the Safari Debug Menu. Do this by executing the following command in a Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1

Now open Safari and there should be a new menu called "Debug". Under this menu, you can switch your User Agent. Note that this solution does not always work, or sometimes it will allow you to visit the site, but certain parts of the site may not display correctly or function properly.

Unfortunately you can't run IE 6 on a Mac because it doesn;t exist.

(For all of those that say "use Firefox -- you're ignoring the fact that the website in question probably uses ActiveX and that is why it's not usable on earlier IE, Mac, or Firefox)

Your only option if this is the case (that the web site uses proprietary Microsoft technology and ignores Web standards) is to install Windows on your Mac with Bootcamp.

Ask your school if they provide special pricing on Windows XP for students. While you're at it, complain about them programming a website that forces you to buy and install software you didn't want.

(IIRC, IETab for Firefox requires IE to be installed on the machine to run the IE engine... that's a non-starter here)

(cen - you would be correct if the website didn't *really* need IE and could be spoofed just by faking the user agent. But this is a math site, and probably is using an ActiveX script to run an on-screen equation editor or something, so Safari will fail on that.)

Here is the scoop.. Microsoft only made IE for mac upto version 5.2 therefore that will not work for you. As to the other answers both safari and firefox will not run CFM pages and that maybe what your school is using. To try out IE 5.2 go to http://mac.oldapps.com/internet_explorer.php you can download all version for free from there. There is another option, you can get a windows xp emulator software for a mac that will run Windows XP on a mac within your MAC OS I think that will be the best way to go the software is calle Boot Camp and you can read about it here http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html

By not using them. There's IE5 for Mac but I'd cut off my leg before I'd use that just because some idiot can't do the easiest things right. The funny thing with most of these pages is: IE7 won't work either LOL.

IE is a nightmare, and impossible to get on mac. Use firefox:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html

With IE Tab:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

This will let you view pages that the microsoft idiots have made to be only compatible with IE

you can search for it and download it free, but macs are pretty bad with pc-intended downloads. if you have a macbook, you should always have a pc as a backup for when you mac can't do something. Firefox should work, and you can download that free too.

It's not possible, sorry. I think that Firefox should be able to do anything that IE can, though (link).

Why not use FireFox? You can customize it to look exactly like IE...
