how to recover outlook express mail from DBX files?

Question

i've lost my emails from outlook express, but still have several dbx files on my pc. Can i re-import them in order to recover my emails?

I can't remember what version of outlook express creates DBX files. But what I would do is create a copy of those files, and also create a backup of your current mail folders if you have anything you want to save. If you need help finding where your current files are stored, go to Tools, Options, Maintenance, Store Folder, copy down the location, and close Outlook Express before copying the files.



Then I'd go ahead and attempt to import them as either Outlook Express 4 or 6. If it doesn't like the format, it will probably simply refuse to import anything. If by chance it screws things up, well, that's what those two backup copies were for.
