Question:
Do you tell people to search instead of answering?
?

I find it more helpful to facilitate searching by others if I keep a personal wiki of answers to common questions ( http://sites.google.com/site/tobiasrichards/system/app/pages/sitemap/hierarchy ). Then I can cut and paste the full answer every time. Then people are more likely to find the answer by searching, instead of finding threads telling people to search when I already am bloody searching.

So I was searching to find out if a product called OpenNMS has a feature called NetFlow. Do you know what I got? I got a crapload of links to mailing archive threads. In each thread, someone asks the same question, and in each thread, the answer is to search the archives. I've had the same experience trying to figure out how to make text go around a circle in Paint.Net (which I gave up on). So what do YOU do when you search for an answer to something, and all you get is people telling other people to search for the answer?

Yes, it can be frustrating .

I wonder whether the people who post "Use search"

and don't help have any idea what a ludicrous situation

they are helping to create.

See, If information available is huge and easily accessible:- I would never mind asking people to search

but I will give them relevant sites to search preferably,

You have answered it partially in your question :)

thanks
