If I go to youtube google, or other major websites I can load and play their videos without a problem. However when I go to a website with an embeded wmv file it just shows a Red X. It does this in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. Is there a security setting that would disable the ability to play embeded files on websites in all browsers?

I am running Windows XP SP3 with WMP11, IE7, and FF3. My virus protection is AVG and Windows Firewall and even with Windows Firewall disabled and AVG uninstalled I still cannot play the files in my browser.

I can play wmv files by double clicking on them, they play just fine in WMP. They just wont play if they are embeded in websites.

Update your Windows Media Player to whatever they say. I know, it sucks. Do that and get back with us, see if that helps.

Open Windows Media Player and it should be under Tools, or About and find [UPDATE...].

Also, if you have time http://www.opera.com Download the Opera webbrowser, it is like Firefox but better in my opinion. See if you can play embedded wmv's in it.
