I have BT total broadband with the BTHH 2 and am switching ISP but I like the HomeHub and was wondering if it was possible to use the router with a different ISP? I have read in the BTHH help that it is possible to change the username and password when the router is disconnected so would I be correct in assuming I just change this to the username and password my new ISP gives me and it will work? And I know that I wouldn't get firmware updates but I'm not really that bothered about getting them and I am guessing there are other ways of getting them.

I know for a fact that 'older' BT internet kit was 'locked' to BT as a service provider .. HOWEVER I don't about the Homehub .. IF it's locked, then (as with all such firmware programmable kit), I'm sure it's possible to 'unlock'.

Routers come with Firewalls (or should do) so 'not getting the updates' is NOT a good idea, since you want any 'holes' discovered in the Firewall to be plugged ASAP (having said that, most routers update only one or two times a year).

Finally, there is the observation that as soon as you have connectivity problems or question your speed, the ISP is going to blame your Router ..

BT probably has the admin options locked down but take a look. If you can alter the admin settings, you only need to change the username and password to allow you to use it with a different ISP. And flashing new firmware is never difficult, you download it to your computer and upload from there

But the Homehub is a wretched router with very poor wireless security.

Use the one provided by your new ISP if they offer you one as part of their package or just buy one on the internet, they are not expensive.

you would not be able to use it with another isp, broadband suppliers provides THEIR modems to you.
